Did you know that 49% of consumers base their buying decisions on influencer recommendations?

That means that 49% of your market will only consider buying your book if it is recommended to them by an influencer they trust!

Now, in the case of most self-publishing budgets, it’s not realistic to go after massive influencers. (Tony Robbins is not going to give your book a shout-out!) The trick is to go after micro influencers.

  • A micro influencer is an account with between 2,000 and 200,000 followers. They are considered an expert in their field and their following trusts them almost blindly.
  • They are less likely to charge $ for collaborations.
  • You can reach many, many people if you do your homework to target a handful of niche influencers highly relevant to your content.
  • With a bit of research and hard work, a micro influencer’s stamp of approval is one of the cheapest, most effective strategies to reach and convince your target market to buy your book.

What kind of micro influencers should I approach?

Think about your target market. Brainstorm and come up with some different user stories. What kind of people will be interested to read your book? What are their hobbies? What kind of social media accounts are they likely to be following?

Some examples to get your creative juices flowing:

Geographic relevance: If your book’s geographic setting is quite central to your story, you could find micro influencers from that area to promote it to their local followings. People like reading books set in their neighbourhoods!

Topic: If your book features a lead character who spends a lot of time doing tae kwondo, reach out to influencers who post about martial arts. If it’s about a book about health or dieting, reach out to people who blog about fitness, food, or health.

Those are just two examples. Think creatively! Come up with a list of suitable topics or links and then go hunting for micro influencers on social media. Then reach out to them and ask them if they would be interested to help you promote your book in exchange for something you can help them with!

Good luck!
